What to expect
Join us for an insightful discussion on how planning, urban design and transport can help create healthier, more connected and more sustainable communities across South Australia.
Developed with support from Preventive Health SA, the Healthy Active by Design for SA guide provides practical guidance for planning, designing and delivering healthy built environments that encourage walking, cycling, public transport use, social connection and access to healthy food. The initiative responds to the growing need to address key contributors to overweight and obesity, including physical inactivity, sedentary lifestyles and poor nutrition.
As South Australia continues to experience the impacts of car-centric urban development, the design of our cities, towns and neighbourhoods has never been more important. Built environments and transport systems can either support or hinder daily physical activity, access to healthy food and opportunities for community connection. Investing in walkable neighbourhoods and active transport infrastructure remains one of the most effective and cost-efficient ways to improve population health and wellbeing.
This session will explore how the Healthy Active by Design for SA framework supports strategic planning, urban development, transport, social infrastructure and public health initiatives. Learn how its eight design features provide a roadmap for creating places that promote healthier lifestyles, with a particular focus on Movement Networks: designing streets, paths and transport systems that prioritise walking, cycling and public transport to foster healthier, more connected and more sustainable communities.
Whether you are involved in planning, transport, urban design, public health or community development, this is an opportunity to discover practical approaches to shaping environments that make active living an easy and natural part of everyday life.
We're also pleased to acknowledge the support of our event partners. Angela Davison of Town Planning is generously sponsoring the catering, while RAA will be hosting the event at their new CBD office, providing a fitting setting for this important discussion on the future of active travel in South Australia.
Be part of the conversation as we explore the next chapter of active travel in South Australia and the role we all play in creating healthier communities for future generations.
