What to expect

Road Safety Audits are a proven tool for preventing deaths and serious injuries. But audit practice is evolving, and recent updates to Austroads guidance have raised expectations for how audits are commissioned, undertaken and managed.

This session explores what contemporary Road Safety Auditing looks like, including the shift towards explicit integration of Safe System principles and what this means in practice for road authorities, project managers and auditors.

We'll also explore the emerging role of AI in Road Safety Auditing, where it can add value, where caution is needed, and real examples of both good and poor practice.

Designed for those commissioning, managing or undertaking audits, the session will highlight common gaps, clarify responsibilities and provide practical guidance on meeting contemporary expectations.

Most importantly, it will demonstrate how Road Safety Audits can move beyond simply meeting procedural requirements to genuinely reducing fatal and serious injury risk.

Registrations closing 9 November 2026.
