What to expect
Crash data alone is no longer sufficient for managing roadway safety. It is delayed, incomplete, and systematically under-represents many serious incidents, particularly near-misses involving vulnerable road users. Transport agencies worldwide are therefore shifting toward proactive safety management using video analytics.
The presentation explains how video analytics identify critical conflicts and safety violations as leading indicators of future crashes. It introduces five validated conflict-based metrics and presents global case studies demonstrating how agencies are moving upstream of crashes, aligning with the Safe System Approach to reduce harm before it occurs.
