What to expect

Community consultation generates a lot of feedback. The hard part is turning it into decisions that unlock funding, resources and delivery.

This session draws on a recent regional walking and cycling strategy to show how community concerns were translated into a clear, defensible set of delivery priorities. It demonstrates how a bespoke prioritisation tool was developed to help council move beyond a long, unsorted list of projects and decide what to build, in what order, and how to position projects for funding.

The session is grounded in applied project experience and informed by a national research program involving Vivendi, Committee for Sydney, councils and UNSW examining what unlocks cycleway delivery fastest. It is aimed at councils and practitioners looking for practical ways to prioritise investment, manage competing expectations, and move from consultation into construction.
