What to expect
Raised crossings are one of the most proven and effective treatments for reducing death and serious injury for pedestrians and people who ride bikes. When designed and implemented correctly, they directly address speed, visibility, and priority in a way that aligns strongly with Safe System principles and human tolerance to crash forces.
This webinar explores why raised crossings are far more than a localised treatment at a single crossing point. Done well, they deliver wider network benefits by reducing approach speeds, improving driver expectancy, enhancing accessibility, and creating safer environments for people walking, riding, and using mobility aids. They are an inherently equitable treatment, providing protection for vulnerable road users regardless of age, ability, or confidence.
However, raised crossings are not automatically safe by default. Poor planning, inappropriate placement, weak geometric design, or inconsistent detailing can significantly reduce their effectiveness and, in some cases, introduce new risks. This session focuses on the planning, engineering, and design decisions that determine whether a raised crossing genuinely delivers Safe System outcomes.
Registrations open 30 April 2026.
