What to expect
Two of the critical factors that ensure an unsignalised intersection operates safely are the available sight distance and whether turn treatments are provided. This is especially important at rural intersections which often have high travel speeds and subsequently a higher likelihood for a serious crash.
We’ll take a look at the basics of why these key aspects of road design are important by looking at the different types of sight distance and turn treatment requirements, the principles of how they have been determined, and how to calculate them.
